Cupping therapy is an ancient form of bodywork, observed in the holistic practices of self care in countries such as China, Russia and Turkey. They are used to address stagnant blood and lymphatic circulation in muscles and areas of the body.
I apply the use of plastic Chinese suction cups to areas of the muscles which are observed to be excessively tight, and may employ techniques such as sliding of the cups or active stretching in tandem with the cups to encourage multidirectional opening of muscle groups.
I recommend this practice when trying to address and shift certain ingrained tension patterns that may have accumulated over time, such as postural issues or chronic back pain. Massage and/or myofascial techniques will also be applied in combination with the cups to help encourage these shifts while the cups are doing their work.
